74 tight steering and wonders

Finally got everything installed (new hydroboost system) and took the Bronco out for a test drive. It stops,do not see any leaks, so far success there. While it was down I rebuilt the steering column because it was (rubbing/squeaking) when I turned the wheel. Well during the test drive the wheel still (rubs/squeaks) and I am fighting the Bronco while driving. It's been a while since she has been driven I understand but just do not remember it being this bad. I also was told that my passenger brake light is not working. I replaced the whole unit when I rebuilt the column . If anyone here is near Whittier and is able and willing to help I would really appreciate it. Please let me know what days/times would be convenient for you. I hope these are "common " issues and easy to fix. It has been to long since I have been able to enjoy taking her out.

Thank you in advance for your time/help,

Sonny

So expand on the rub/squeak thing. That's not good and could definitely be contributing factor in the wandering. Starting at the top you have the steering wheel attached to the steering shaft. That shaft should be centered by the bearings and spin freely without binding or "rubbing". So because I'm kind of shooting in the dark here I'll mention one Bronco I worked on years ago that had a weird wander and tightening of the steering under acceleration. This rig had a P/S conversion done by someone. What I found was the movement between the frame and body when you sped up caused the turn signal switch housing (body mounted) to rub the bottom of the steering wheel (frame mounted in this case by a solid shaft all the way to the box) This slight binding/rubbing made the steering feel like it was wandering and it was because the steering was not able to act normal for lack of any better way to put it. Lodi is quite a drive but I'm guessing we could diagnose this pretty quick if it were sitting in front of me. We will be down at KOH 2022 if you are going there. You probably have this fixed by now.:)
