It depends on the brand of the radio, but most of the time - the GMRS radio can "listen" also to different bands also. I programmed my " Radioddity GM-30 to the SCB bands, so I can monitor the conversations. I also got a TIDRADIO UV-5R of Amazon can transmit on all HAM and GRMS bands...
